As part of the Lake Chad Basin Conservation Project—funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Alinea International in partnership with the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC)—an official handover ceremony was held in June 2025 in N’Djamena. Ten YAMAHA motorcycles and ten protective helmets were delivered to the Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, as well as to the non-governmental organization Sauvons le Lac Tchad (OSLT).

This equipment is intended to strengthen the operational capacity of teams responsible for implementing and monitoring project activities in the target areas of Mandalia, Fianga, Yao, and Salamat. It will help improve field monitoring and support better coordination at the local level.

The ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry, Mr. Koularambaye Koundja Julien; the Director General of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries Resources, Mr. Idriss Lol Mahamat Choua; and several ministry advisors. Alinea International was represented by Project Director David Forest, Regional Director François Awounkeu, and Chad-based Project Manager Ahmat Abaya.

In his remarks, the Secretary General welcomed the strong partnership with Alinea and emphasized that this contribution would enhance community support and strengthen the monitoring of activities on the ground. He expressed appreciation for the logistical support, describing it as essential to carrying out work in ecologically sensitive areas.

This initiative is part of the project’s broader commitment to promoting biodiversity conservation, sustainable natural resource management, and climate change adaptation in the Lake Chad region.
