The first episode of the documentary series immerses us in the lives of communities in the Lake Chad Basin who are restoring ecosystems and developing their livelihoods.
Youth Summit on Environmental Peacebuilding
Youth summit for environmental peacebuilding in the Lake Chad basin region. The new regional stabilization strategy for the Lake Chad region, led by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), recognizes youth engagement as an important element.
The Summit will bring together 24 young people aged 18 to 35 from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Canada. They are selected from among young participants in the Lake Chad Basin Commission, youth groups under the biodiversity and climate change conventions, and local United Nations associations.
Building Resilience Together: Insights from the Lake Chad Basin Conservation Event at the University of Ottawa
In the context of Canada’s International Development Week 2026, Mr. Hycinth Banseka, Technical Director of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), a key partner of the Lake Chad Basin Conservation Project, made an official visit to Canada from February 3 to 8, 2026. Mr. Banseka represented the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, who unfortunately could not join the visit to Canada.

As we celebrate the beginning of International Development Week, the Lake Chad Basin Conservation Project commemorates World Wetlands Day, celebrated on February 2, a day for raising awareness about the need to preserve vital ecosystems such as the Lake Chad Basin.

ANNOUNCEMENT – SECOND ROUND OF MICROGRANTS
As part of the project, grants of up to 4,000,000 CFA francs will be awarded to support two types of initiatives: 1) Innovation in income-generating activities (IGAs) in wetlands and agropastoral areas. 2) Access to climate-smart agriculture technologies in wetlands and agropastoral areas.
