From March 4 to 7, 2025, the restoration and rehabilitation team of the wetland and agro-pastoral zones from the Lake Chad Basin Conservation Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, conducted a field visit to the towns of Petté and Maga.

The goal of this mission was to enhance the technical skills of the identified arborists in communities near the Abouli community forest and Maga Lake, so they can master plant production techniques.

A total of thirty-two arborists were trained on plant production techniques, including thirteen in Maga and nineteen in Petté, with a production plan of 100,000 plants in Petté and 150,000 in Maga.

During these training sessions, the plant arborists from Maga and Petté learned the importance of tree plant production and strategies for effectively marketing their products.

Additionally, the arborists were equipped with essential plant production kits, consisting of a wheelbarrow, a watering can, gloves, and a spade.

This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of arborists in producing plants for the rehabilitation of degraded sites in the Lake Chad Basin.

Together, let’s save the Lake Chad Basin from climate change and desertification!
